Team Building (FLG X Home Addition)

As a group of individuals that thrive from being outside, we want to bring a taste of our course to your home while school and extracurricular activities are on hold. One of our passions at FLG X is team building and the value that brings to us as we learn and grow as individuals. From our FLG X family to yours, here are some of our favorite team building games that are perfect for your family to enjoy!

Floor is Lava

Find an open spot in your house or yard and lay out a few objects that are “safe” to step on (i.e. a pillow, paper plate, piece of paper). Only place half the number of objects as there are participants. For example, If you have 6 members in your family place 3 “safe” objects. Once someone starts the trek across the “lava”, you have to work together to strategically place the “safe” objects in new places to get everyone from point A to point B safely!

Steal My Bacon

Pick an open area in your house or yard, and choose someone to stand at point B and have the rest of the family at point A (the starting line). Have a few objects (a football, toy, etc.) on the ground behind the person you chose at point B and have the rest of the group start at point A. The group has to steal the objects, occasionally the person chosen will turn around, if they see someone moving or if they see an object that was stolen they take the object back and send the moving people back to the starting line. If no one is moving or the chosen person doesn’t see the stolen objects there’s nothing they can do, the group has to work as a team to get each of the objects back to the starting line without the chosen person noticing.

Mine Field

Pick an open area in your house or yard, or even at an open park! Choose a bunch of random household items that you can spread out in an open area (ex. balls, toys, old t-shirts). We would use cones to create the game extents, but you can use anything (i.e. paper cups, sticks, jump rope). Once you have all your objects placed within the game extents, pick a partner. One partner will be blindfolded while the other will help guide the blindfolded partner to the finish line. If your team accidentally hits an object or “mine” you have to walk back to the starting line and give it another try. If you’re getting too good at the game, try limiting the directions to one word (ex. right, left, step) or add more objects to the game extents. This game is awesome because you can change it up to make it harder or easier in so many ways!

Dog, Rice, Chicken

Pick an open area in your house, yard, or a nearby park. Choose an object that represents a river (i.e. sticks, jump rope) and three objects that represent a dog, rice, and chicken. Chose a family member to play the role of farmer while the rest of the group will act as villagers. The farmer has to return home along with its 3 purchases (Dog, Rice and Chicken) by crossing a river in a boat. The farmer can carry only one item with them on the boat. They cannot leave the dog alone with the chicken because the dog will eat the chicken, and they cannot leave the chicken alone with the bag of grain because the chicken will eat the bag of grain. As a team you will have to figure out how the farmer will get al three of their purchases back home safely. The villagers can help the farmer in arriving at the solution, which is really simple if the group thinks creatively and together.
